The One Proposal

The coordinated Jesuit response to the Ukraine Crisis

The International Armed Conflict between Russia and Ukraine has displaced millions of people, constituting the largest humanitarian crisis in Europe since the Second World War. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) has been on the frontlines of humanitarian response, working with those who have been forced to flee their homes. Today, after an in-depth needs assessment, JRS Europe is presenting the coordinated unified response from the Society of Jesus to the crisis: The One Proposal.

The Society of Jesus has served 127.528 people fleeing violence in the three years since the war in Ukraine started. Coordinated by JRS Europe and the Xavier Network, in collaboration with NGOs and local partners, the Jesuits has provided 612.606 individual services including emergency aid, shelter, psychosocial support, education, and integration, among other services, through the One Proposal.

As the crisis continued and the needs of people evolved, the response was continuously expanded and adapted. Based on surveys and interviews, the services shifted from more than half aimed at short-term and emergency aid in 2022, to almost 8 out of 10 being aimed at medium- and long-term support in 2024.

This work would not have been possible without our committed teams and the continued solidarity of many generous people, foundations, and organisations from around the world who trust in the work of the Society of Jesus. You can help us continue to accompany and serve thousands of people who were forcibly displaced from their homes by donating through https://jrseurope.org/en/take-action/donate/.
