Joint Civil Society Statement on the Council’s position on the Return Regulation Proposal

JRS Europe joins a broad coalition of civil society organisations across Europe in raising alarm over the direction taken by Member States in the negotiations on the proposed EU Return Regulation.

The current approach risks weakening fundamental rights protections, expanding detention practices, and undermining the EU’s commitments to dignity, fairness, and the rule of law. As discussions advance, organisations are calling for a shift toward policies that are humane, rights-based, and compliant with EU and international standards.
