JRS Europe expresses deep concern following the European Parliament’s vote on the EU Safe Countries of Origin (SCO) and Safe Third Countries (STC) framework.
The recent changes risk to lead to harmful practices such as the detention of refugees in harmful conditions, forced relocation to countries with no ties, and the undermining of right to asylum and human dignity.
JRS calls for EU institutions and Member States to rethink this framework, emphasising that the protection of individual rights must remain central to asylum procedures, rather than deterrence or speed-driven measures.
