The Association of Schools of Social Work in Romania (ASSWR), founded in 2010, promotes and develops education and research in social work. It organizes the annual Social Work International Conference with the University of Bucharest and has led projects on restorative justice, detention reform, and refugee-related studies.

Two research reports developed within SMART UA analyse employment and labour market integration of Ukrainian refugees in Romania. They highlight the range of actors involved in employment support, existing barriers such as language and administrative complexity, and uneven labour market outcomes despite generally high education levels. The findings stress the need for better coordination and tailored, inclusive approaches to support sustainable employment pathways.
A workshop held on 21 January 2026 within SMART UA, in cooperation with JRS Romania, marked the launch of two national research reports on labour market integration of Ukrainian refugees in Romania. Bringing together practitioners, researchers and institutions, the event fostered dialogue on key challenges, good practices and the need for coordinated, evidence-based approaches to strengthen inclusive employment pathways.

The findings show limited long-term housing support, strong reliance on the private rental market, and persistent challenges such as high costs, administrative barriers and discrimination. The reports stress that stable housing is essential for social inclusion and call for more coordinated, predictable and sustainable housing support mechanisms.
