JRS Europe present at Xavier Network’s Annual Meeting

19 April 2025

JRS Europe Regional Director, Alberto Ares, participated of the Xavier Network’s Annual Meeting in Vienna. This was an opportunity to meet with companions of our mission of faith and justice and highlight the results of the joint work done in the last few years, especially under the One Proposal initiative.

During the meeting, Alberto Ares had the opportunity to thank the Xavier Network for their collaboration and commitment in leading, together with JRS, the Jesuit response to the emergency in Ukraine. In his presentation he also underlined the hundreds of thousands of people accompanied by this work and the capacities built within Ukraine and in neighbouring countries thanks to this collaboration.

In a context where the suffering of millions due to a war is at risk of being forgotten, Ares underscored the support from both Pope Francis and, the Jesuit father General, Fr. Arturo Sosa, to continue to accompany and support the people most affected.

During the presentation, there was a rich debate in which the joint work in this emergency was valued, showing best practices, in a pioneering work of networking that can continue to nurture joint work in the future. Ares also encourage all partners to explore ways to build upon this collaboration, continuing joint support for the millions of refugees and internally displaced persons affected by this devastating war.

The Xavier Network is an international mission and development partnership between Jesuit organisations working in faith to promote justice, 14 members, including mission offices and non-governmental development organisations of Jesuit provinces across Europe, North America and Australia.
