Gifting hospitality to refugees this Christmas

14 December 2018

Brussels, 5 December 2018 – 2018 has been a year of challenge for JRS Europe’s team and our partners across the region. Over the year, we have seen the need to raise our voices louder than ever before to ask for protection for all of those who are seeking it.

Throughout Europe, JRS helps refugees to feel welcome and at home. With our project Communities of Hospitality, we have engaged in new ways to provide hospitality to refugees whether it be through day centres, cultural centres, family hosting projects or simply coffee mornings.

Yared, an Eritrean refugee settled in France, fled his home due to violence and left his family behind. During the journey, Yared faced difficult situations that continued in Europe. Yared is a participant in JRS France’s Welcome programme, one of the many examples throughout Europe where our partners help refugees feel welcome and at home in their local communities.

When Yared met JRS France, his situation changed as he was hosted by volunteer families that supported him from the start, opened doors, and helped new friendships to grow.

Today, Yared is safe, warm and self-sufficient. Hospitality has transformed Yared’s life.

This Christmas, help us to continue giving gifts of hospitality to people who have been forced to flee their homes, their families and their sense of comfort and safety. With your help, we can continue to provide support to refugees like Yared.
